We all have a public face and if asked, "How are you?" will often answer "fine", even when we don't feel that way. What happens behind the masks we have - do they protect or isolate us ? We can all be guilty of judging by appearances (for good and for bad) and first impressions can lead to wrong conclusions about people and events.
These three diptychs speak about this while making reference to Jesus' command to 'love Gopd with all your heart, all your mind and all your strength'.
Thought makes reference to human emotion and the fragility of being. Word is a more literal visualisation. Deed is an expression of devotion shown by Italian prisoners of war creating St Mary's Chapel in orkney during Woporld War II.
"The Lord does not look at things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." 1 Samuel 16 v 7
The prophet Samuel's declaration basically states God doesn't judge a book by its cover - something we would be wise in doing ourselves.
